- Surface Profiling: Preparation includes mechanical methods like shot blasting and/or diamond grinding. This step creates a porous surface profile on the concrete, which is essential for the coating to bond securely.
- Dust Control: To maintain a clean work environment, all of our grinders and equipment are connected to powerful industrial vacuum systems. This process effectively minimizes dust, keeping the air and your property clean during the preparation phase.
Concrete Reconstruction and Repair
A perfect, long-lasting concrete coating starts with a flawless foundation. At Splash Concrete Coatings, we ensure your floor is properly prepared by utilizing high-quality menders and fillers to fix any existing pits and cracks in the concrete before the coating process begins. This crucial step creates a smooth, solid surface, guaranteeing maximum adhesion and a superior final appearance for your new floor.
Applying the Basecoat
The critical first step in the coating process is the application of the basecoat. At Splash Concrete Coatings, we use our premium, 100% solids, self-priming pure polyurea basecoat. This material is carefully mixed and then professionally applied. This base layer is what ensures maximum adhesion to the prepared concrete and forms the foundation of a durable, long-lasting floor.
Broadcasting the Polymer Flake
Immediately following the basecoat application, the decorative polymer flake is generously broadcast by hand across the wet surface. This crucial step achieves two things for your new floor:
- Custom Color: It provides the final color blend and aesthetic you selected.
- Enhanced Texture: It creates a subtle, non-slip texture for added safety and dimension.
Scraping and Cleaning the Flake
Once the basecoat is fully cured (hardened), the floor undergoes a crucial finishing step: scraping and vacuuming.
- Scraping: The surface is carefully scraped to remove any loose or vertically standing flakes. This action knocks down any sharp points, ensuring the floor is smooth and uniform.
- Vacuuming: A thorough vacuuming follows to remove all debris, preparing the perfectly profiled surface for the final clear topcoat.
The Final Clear Coat
The final step in our process is applying the protective clear coat. We finish the floor by rolling out a UV-stable Polyaspartic clear coat. This layer is crucial as it:
- Seals the polymer flakes and the basecoat.
- Provides a brilliant finish that resists fading and yellowing from sunlight.
